Missourian Blog Post #4: Oh the weather outside is frightful…

I feel like it’s been too long since I wrote an article. Granted, despite my time spent in the newsroom, you don’t get a lot when you are not on GA. Plus, my part of the beat has been conspicuously quiet. Hopefully this week I can beef up my staff page. Interestingly enough I am actually enjoying my time reporting. It is stressful and somewhat anxiety-provoking, but it’s thrilling to be a part of breaking news.

It’s probably just the calm before the storm. March is looking to be quite busy for the education beat, but for now, I am enjoying getting to know the newsroom and catching up on my multimedia project. It is shaping up well. Right now I am going through photos and charting audio. Although it is tedious, I think the project will turn out nicely.

If I had to do it over, I would go back and try to shoot with a better camera. I would also be more aware of ambient noise and trying to capture the interaction between subjects. These things eat at me, but then again, it’s just my first project.

Aside from this, I am trying to explicate a senate bill about summer school funding. The legislation is always difficult, but Bridget and I have been making every effort to stay on top of our beat.

Oh, and we might soon see the blizzard to end all blizzards. Talk about newsworthy!
