Instead of the usual post about how social media is changing journalism, blah, blah, blah, I figured I’d be more creative with my ode. Twitter prompted me to start a story today that also had an update, so in it’s honor, I dedicate this sonnet:
I’ll admit I didn’t understand you,
This media trend had me confused.
140 characters, no more, in lieu
Of keeping posts short, only the hard news.
But my reporting semester began,
My free time was quickly drifting away.
I knew things would definitely be changin’,
Yes, journalism would be a mainstay.
I learned the techniques, the rules and the style,
Social media tools not far behind.
Facebook and blogging, can help us compile,
On Twitter too, information we find.
So now I tweet and follow constantly,
The future of journalism? We’ll see.
Thought I’d take a break from the seriousness of the last few posts. Hope you all enjoy my (questionable) attempts at poetry!
